About this blog

After years of blogging in various venues on an exceedingly broad range of topics, I’m finally opening up a site that acts as a hub for all of my online presences. Part portfolio, part sounding board, part resumé, is how I see it.

The aesthetic I chose for the site is a bit unique, but it serves my tastes well. Bold, image-driven banners with great typography (thanks Google Web Fonts!) teasing the actual content on the site rather than having full posts on the home page. This may seem counter to conventional wisdom (I have to click to see your content?). However, I consider it a good trade-off between maintaining my visual identity and the fact that the vast majority of my visitors will come from either direct linking to posts from Twitter/Facebook/LinkedIn or will read through an RSS subscription. This isn’t a major, ad-driven blog seeking to pull in random readers and wary of losing some due to potential UI discomfort—it’s just a place for me to get my thoughts down in a public arena.

You can also check out some of my captured photons at Gordon Ryan Photography. I’m planning to move that over to WordPress (again) soon and creating a legit portfolio site to see what kind of extra business it drums up. test
